#IWSG Post: Writing Quotes

Photo Credit: Alan Cleaver on Flickr

It's December? My, how time flies.

No insecurity/fears to share today. But I've found some interesting quotes about writing that you may like. I hope one or all of them inspires or motivates you.

IWSG

“It is better to write a bad first draft than to write no first draft at all.”

—Will Shetterly

“If I waited for perfection… I would never write a word.”
—Margaret Atwood

“If the book is true, it will find an audience that is meant to read it.”
—Wally Lamb

And this one's my favorite:

“Be courageous and try to write in a way
that scares you a little.”

—Holly Gerth

If you'd write your own quote, what would you say? I guess mine would be something like: "When I write, I tend to lose myself in the process, but I also find myself in the end." It's like you being the book and the story becomes your story even though it isn't. And at the same time you're also detached in a way since you're the one writing it. Like a stranger looking in and watching the story come to life.

Do expect another post from me within the month. Happy IWSG! Virtual *hugs*, everyone! I'll see you soon.

P.S. I just visited the IWSG website and saw that the  IWSG anthology is out. Yay! Do check it out. It's a wealth of information from authors all over the globe. Oh, and the book trailer is so awesome, too.

These are great quotes! Love the one about writing in a way that scares you a little. Too often we write in our comfort zone!

Those quotes are perfect to remind us that we have to write no matter what. Thanks for sharing!

Great quotes!

I read this the other day and it stayed with me-
"How many times as a writer have you gotten so caught up in the next step of the writing process that you lose sight of the real finish-line: getting to the end? Are you suffering from a case of go-back-and-fix-it, or worse, page-perfectionitis? Stop worrying about editing or finding the perfect word, and just get to the end."

Writing for perfection is like waiting for perfect circumstances - it will never happen.

The last one resonated with me deeply. I'm working on a very emotionally draining book but it's well worth it in the end.

Great quotes! I have no idea what my own quote would be, but that's an interesting thing to mull over... I guess I'm in need of a motto! ;-)

Wishing you enjoy a wonderful season!

I think my favorite is Will Shetterly's quote. A truth we need to remember.

Wonderful quotes. Instead of overplanning and overresearching like I used to, I'd rather just dive into the draft.
